  • Sear the seasoned chicken in a skillet over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes per side until golden brown, then remove and set aside.
  • Preheat your oven to broil.
  • In the same pan, add butter, sliced onions, salt, and pepper; cook on low heat for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized.
  • Stir in the fresh thyme and beef broth, then bring the onion mixture to a simmer.
  • Return the seared chicken to the pan, placing it on top of the caramelized onions, and sprinkle generously with shredded Gruyère cheese.
  • Broil for approximately 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling golden brown.
  • Serve the cheesy French onion chicken hot over toasted slices of bread.
